Pan de Agua

Imagen
This Pan de Agua recipe, which translates to “water bread” is a traditional Latin American bread that is fluffy, dense, and the easiest loaf of bread you will ever make! There is something cathartic about baking bread. If you want some of my other favorite bread recipes then you have to try my Easy Rustic Olive Bread, Savory Irish Soda Bread, and Honey and Herb Bread. When someone tells you they make their own bread, you might think “wow they must have nothing but time on their hands.” And in some cases that might be true, however, one thing I can assure you of, you have time to make this recipe. If you have never made bread before this is the PERFECT recipe to start with. It’s quick, easy, only uses four ingredients, and it’s likely that all four are already sitting in your pantry. So, buckle up because once you make this recipe, and taste how amazing fresh bread is compared to the store-bought kind, you will never want to go back. As I mentioned, this Pan de Agua recipe onl

Sprouted Jalapeno Cornbread

Imagen
Healthy recipe for jalapeno cornbread using sprouted ingredients for easy and quick preparation with maximum digestibility and nutrition. This jalapeno cornbread is amazing as a side dish with this white bean chili recipe. Why make sprouted cornbread? It’s a great option if you don’t have the time to make traditionally soaked cornbread. If you find it difficult to source sprouted corn flour and meal, at the very least use masa harina which is pretreated with lime to release the Vitamin B3 (niacin), an important nutrient for detoxification. I also recommend always using organic AND nonGMO certified corn due to the widespread GMO cross-contamination of organic corn crops in North America. One other tip…it is a good idea to use gloves when you are chopping the jalapenos or your hands may tingle or even burn slightly afterward! Jarred chilis are fine to use as a substitute, but freshly chopped is more nutritious. Be sure to use any slightly soured raw milk you might have on

10 Year Blogiversary: A Walk Down Memory Lane

Today is a big day for me. It’s my 10 Year Blogiversary! On this day 10 years ago, I took a leap and started my own blog on WordPress.com. I published my very first post about “The Thinking Closet” of my early childhood where I would get lost in a creative project for hours. I ended that first post with an invitation to whomever was out there–whomever might be listening–to “come on in!” And to my surprise and delight, YOU DID! But you didn’t just visit The Thinking Closet, you cozied on in and made yourself at home. You listened to my stories, read my long-winded tutorials, some of you even tried them out, too. You giggled at my cheesy jokes, updated me on your life through our virtual coffee date emails, and left me the most encouraging comments. Without a doubt, it has been the steady support of my Thinking Closet community (ahem…that means YOU!) that has kept me going all these years–that has kept me writing, creating, and sharing in a rapidly-changing blogosphere and as

How to Make a Quilted Tote Bag With Precut 2½” Strips

Many of us quilters are well familiar with the joys of sweet bundles of precut fabric collections. But if you’re like me, sometimes when we collect them, they turn into dust-collectors, souvenirs, bric-a-brac, knickknacks, et cetera, anything but being used. This post is here to help you (and me!) put at least one of those pretty precut 2½” strip rolls to use. Let’s have a little fun and learn how to make a quilted tote bag — it’s always a good time to try something new! Start with a beautiful bundle of precut 2½” strips, and then choose from one of two methods to prepare them for an intriguing weaving technique. Carol made two stylish totes; our pattern walks you through the pink version. But I bet you can’t make just one: you’ll want one for you, one for each of your quilting friends, one for…you get the idea! The complete pattern, Woven Beach Bag, designed by Carol McLeod of Aunties Two is featured in the May/June 2023 issue of Love of Quilting. You can also purchase the Woven B

How to add gold luster to ceramics

Imagen
Here is how to add gold luster to ceramics. Granted, this tutorial is for anyone who works with fired ceramics and has access to a kiln. But if you are interested in the process, you can visit a local paint on pottery or ceramic studio and they will help guide you along through this process! Scroll down to the end of this post to see how to add gold to ceramics if you don’t have a kiln! I have been working with ceramics here in my studio for almost 15 years. I am always amazed at the different things that could be done with this art form. Adding gold to my finished pieces are…CHEF’s KISS! via GIPHY It’s a bit of a process because it takes an extra firing. And that little gold bottle is pretty spendy.  It’s worth it. I’ve barely dabbled in this technique, but there is lots of inspiration on Instagram! Here is a video I made showing a recent batch     A post shared by Kathy Cano-Murillo (@craftychica) Know your gold I’ve worked with two types of gold lusters for

The new compilation was curated by DJ Amir and includes recordings by Kenny Cox, Sam Sanders, The Contemporary Jazz Quintet, Ursula Walker and The Lyman Woodard Organization, among others.
